Rhyming Among the Spindles

This Friday night from 7-9pm stop by the Monarch Lofts at 210 Merrimack St in Lawrence for a poetry jam on the themes of the Bread & Roses Strike. The event is sponsored by the Bread & Roses Centennial Committee, the Monarch Lofts, and the Robert Frost Foundation.

We'll be starting the evening off with a showing of the film "Collective Voices" on the history of the strike. After the film we'll hear some poetry from former poet laureate of Cambridge College and Lawrence native, Cesar Sanchez Beras, and North Andover poet laureate Gayle Heney. To end the evening we'll have open-mic style performances from the slam poetry teams at Timberlane High School and Lawrence High School.

The poetry for the evening will be focused ont he themes of the Bread & Roses Strike of 1912: immigration, work, the city of Lawrence, etc. 

During the evening the Monarch Lofts will have some of their models open for touring. Refreshments will be served. The Monarch Lofts are handicapped accessible.
